Activate
Promote awareness and understanding of social justice issues through media that Activates people to think about justice,
Educate
Educate individuals on how to address injustice by equipping them with the knowledge to create just environments in their own lives,

Participate

Offer opportunities to Participate in addressing social justice issues through speakers, projects, discussion group and more,
Advocate
Speak out, Advocate on social justice issues for a better community,

                     ....we can grow the presence and strength of social justice, truly acknowledging the dignity and worth of all persons, in our community.

 

Goals:

There are three focus areas in MUMC SJM ranging from long to short range:


5 year focus: Educating and Creating Fair Trade Consumers
3 year focus: Social Action and Justice in Healthcare
1 year (2005) focus: Justice Education Program

1 year (2004) focus: Get the Educated Vote Out

  1. Monthly Fair Trade Coffee sales to congregation
  2. Yearly Fair Trade Market
  3. Discussions beginning on forming a social justice ministers program
  4. Planning on beginning  a social justice speakers series
  5. JustFaith Classes
  6. Voter Education and Registration programs
  7. Meet the Candidates program
  8. Representation on the exploratory committee for a community life center
  9. Representation on Mission Fund Board
  10. Discsussions starting on healthcare and United Methodist prescription drug card offering
  11. Discussions starting on creating an in-service program for other churches looking to revive social justice interest through Fair Trade
