Courage Conference

In July 2006, Courage held a conference at St. Louis Univeristy.

Courage is a transformational ministry that encourages the development of chastity, so that “one can move beyond the confines of the homosexual identity to a more complete one in Christ.”

CAN developed a factsheet on Courage, and sponsored a vigil in opposition to the misinformation about homosexuality that Courage espouses. Check out our all of our suggested actions below.

Actions CAN En"courage"d :

-   Educate yourself and others about Courage and other "ex-gay" groups. 

~ Download the CAN "Courage Factsheet" and distribute widely!

     

~ Visit our Holy Families page to learn more about the work to "extend the Catholic tradition of opposing discrimination and oppression to include the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender community." 

     

~ Read Statements from Professional Health and Mental Health organizations on homosexuality

-   Write a Letter

  ~ First, to anyone you know who is associated with SLU- faculty, students, or staff members.  Encourage these folks to contact their supervisors, and administration.  Let's expose SLU's hosting of this conference, and ask SLU to withdraw it's support of Courage.  Click here for a Sample Letter that includes University contact information.

~ Second, write to the St. Louis Post Dispatch- columnists (Bill McClellan email address here, Sylvester Brown here), and letters to the editor,   Make it public!

 -   Join CAN's Vigil at the Conference-

~ Thursday, July 27th, 5:30-7pm

Grand Blvd at Lindell, across from College Church.

~ Bring a reading, poem, or song to share.
