Same-Sex Unions in Premodern Europe by John Boswell |
"O Lord our God, who grant us what we ask for our salvation, who hath commanded us to love each other and to pardon each other [our] transgressions, bless, Lord, giver of good [things], lover of mankind, these two servants of thine who love each other with a love of the spirit and have come to thy holy temple wishing to receive thy sanctification and benediction; grant them unabashed faithfulness and sincere love, and just as you gave thy holy disciples and apostles thy peace and love, grant [them] also to these, Christ our God, giving them all those things necessary for salvation and eternal life.'" Read an extended excerpt on the Passion of SS. Serge & Bacchus. |

"A U.S. Vatican official at the Congregation for Bishops, Andrew R. Baker stated that homosexuality is a 'disordered attraction' and that it can 'never "image" God and never contribute to the good of the person or society.' The media patterns of scapegoating and inquisition are in place, and the princes of the church are willing to sacrifice their priests and seminarians for their beautiful 'queer' robes, personal prestige, and power rather than to take personal responsibility for their involvement in clerical sexual misconduct, just as some are unwilling to admit their homoerotic desires to themselves or to others. The problem is with a church structure and hierarchy that fosters evasion, dishonesty, silencing, scapegoating, misogyny, internalized homophobia, and hypocrisy. " |

Know My Name A Gay Liberation Theology by Richard Cleaver |
"Our exile is one of our tools; it offers us the critical distance that we need to resurrect the whole church. We only impoverish ourselves if we try to avoid this rebuilding by adding new sect walls. What we said about solidarity above is true here as well: it can save us from becoming accomplices in oppression. We also impoverish ourselves if we see our exile as permanent. We must pray to be gathered like the scattered seed, so that we can offer our gifts at the altar alongside our sisters and brothers." |
